It's like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a can opener?

We had Kyle's friends over for dinner tonight. We were going to make tacos but he had all the ingredients to make my chicken tortilla soup so I decided to make that instead. Kyle got off work early too which was nice because he helped when he got home. I had baked cookies before he got off work and so all we had to make was the soup. I needed a cipolla (onion) for the soup so we went down to the Italian market downstairs. They had tons of fresh greens out too so I grabbed some fresh arugula, one of my favorites. Once we were back upstairs we started making the soup and I realized I needed a can opener and guess who doesn't own one. Of course. Also with perfect timing when I have pots cooking on the stove already Kyle gets an important phone call and is no where to be found as I tear up the kitchen looking for something to open the 6 cans I have. Just a little but frantic. What was mind boggling to me is I made this same soup last time I was out here, so I must have had a way ...

Made it!

Luckily my long 10 hour flight wasn't too bad. I didn't sleep the whole time but I did watch a few movies. I only got restless when we were about 3 hours away. That last stretch is hard. The guy I sat next to, Zach, was quite too and didn't bother me at all which was good so I could try to sleep but that didn't work out. My goal was to sleep in the airport in Turkey because I didn't on the plane at all so once I landed I looked for a deserted quiet spot in the airport to lay down and try to sleep. I didn't know what gate to go to yet either because they hadn't picked one yet and I had to wait 3 hours before they did. Sleeping in the airport is the worst but I made the best of it and soon enough I was back on a plane for another 2 hours. Kyle got to take a half day of work today so he could pick me up. I got in at 12:45 so by the time he got me we still had a full day together which was really nice. It was beautiful out too! He had parked on base so we ...

Preparations

Here we go again! You would think that by now I would be used to this day, the day before I leave or the day before he arrives. But I'm not. I am more anxious than ever and with all the stress life has been throwing at me I can't even wait to get on that plane tomorrow. Even if it is a 10 hour flight followed by another 2+ hour one. Since my trip is short we don't have plans to leave the area too far but we do have day trips planned that I'm so excited about!! Our first one will be on Sunday. We will be going with our favorite, Aldo, to Amalfi Coast and Positano. Then on Tuesday we will be taking a cooking class!! How awesome is that?! Learning how to cook, in Italy, with Italians. Perfect! Lastly on the last Saturday before I fly home, we are going wine tasting again. I Aldo will be our tour guide again but we will see. After a long day I can finally put my mind at ease and into travel mode. New York I'm giving you a break for a while. See you in a few week...

Boston, MA + Sam Adams Brewery (by Kyle)

2 January 2013 Boston, MA and Newport, RI This is Kyle again, I have returned to write another blog about my trip to the East Coast.  Laura and I had an awesome time on New Years and New Years day.  We woke up early this morning in preparation for our trip to Boston and rushed to Kinkos so we could print our bus tickets.  We hauled our stuff quickly to Chinatown and hopped on the Fung-Wah bus.  Laura and I slept on and off throughout the ride and finally arrived in Boston 4 hours later.  We quickly departed the bus station and headed directly to the Sam Adam's brewery. On the way we saw Kady's street! We got there just in time for the tasting session of their final tour of the day!  The beer was so fresh and amazing!  We met up with some of Laura's friends who were also in Boston (the same ones we met up with on New Year's Eve-Day). Lily, Laura, Me, Alexian and Eric at Sam Adams! We headed over to the local pub called Doyles that ...

New Years Eve (By Kyle)

31 December 2012 New Years Eve By Kyle Wow, what a day!  We did so much, and still have an action packed week ahead of us.  We woke up early after a night of watching Scrubs .  I haven't seen the whole series yet, so Laura is bringing me up to speed (from 8 years ago, haha).  We didn't bother eating breakfast; we had brunch engagements with some of her close friends who were visiting the city.  This was my first REAL venture into the city.  I had been to New York 12 years before, so I was pretty much lost without Laura.  We took multiple subways to Astoria and met up with her friends at the Grand Cafe.  Laura mentioned she and Chris hate the restaurant's neon sign because at night it is way too bright for the surrounding area.  It was daytime, so it didn't bother us the least bit.  When we entered, a hostess approached me, and as I was about to say, "We are meeting some friends here," I hear a high pitched voice scream "Laura...

Our Christmas

I still had a secret Kyle didn't know about, the hotel Christmas, and he was about to find out. When we were waiting in line for a cab, I pulled out the room key that was in an envelope and gave it to him. He was very confused but I said just be patient. After dealing with out stupid cabbie we made it to the hotel. I didn't need to check in since I already had. I was do excited in the elevator I still couldn't contain myself I wanted to show him his surprise so badly! Once we got to the room he saw the sign on the door and I explained that since he couldn't be here for Christmas, I made it for us! He loved everything! I showed him around the whole place and everything that I had done. Our cute little christmas tree! Loaded baked potato soup with strawberry mango sangria and cute straws to match! The first thing he wanted to do was to have me open my present but I told him to wait. He wanted to take it out of his suitcase at the airport an have me open it he w...

The Wait

This is something we have to get use to for sure. My wait was different than Kyle's wait today. I was up at 7am, not rested at all from the lack of sleep the night before. I had everything ready to go and I just needed to be patient and that's the hardest thing in the world on days like these. I took my time getting ready and eating breakfast. I was planning on heading to the hotel I booked for us before I went to the airport. I wanted to be there before noon and needed to leave at 10am to get there. Well it was snowing outside, so my plan of lugging all my stuff through the subways failed. I called a cab instead which meant I didn't need to leave till 11am now. Another hour of wait time. I was so ready to go when the can driver showed up. It was my first time using Uber and I'm so glad I did. The driver was fantastic and was so excited for me when I told him my plans for that day. I booked us a room at the Springhill Hotel and Suites and had called ahead to make su...
