It's like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a can opener?

We had Kyle's friends over for dinner tonight. We were going to make tacos but he had all the ingredients to make my chicken tortilla soup so I decided to make that instead. Kyle got off work early too which was nice because he helped when he got home. I had baked cookies before he got off work and so all we had to make was the soup. I needed a cipolla (onion) for the soup so we went down to the Italian market downstairs. They had tons of fresh greens out too so I grabbed some fresh arugula, one of my favorites.

Once we were back upstairs we started making the soup and I realized I needed a can opener and guess who doesn't own one. Of course. Also with perfect timing when I have pots cooking on the stove already Kyle gets an important phone call and is no where to be found as I tear up the kitchen looking for something to open the 6 cans I have. Just a little but frantic. What was mind boggling to me is I made this same soup last time I was out here, so I must have had a way to open the cans when I was here last time. I don't remember how but I don't remember opening 6 cans being this difficult. I ended up using this old bottle opener and pretty much butchering the cans while Kyle was on YouTube (aka his dictionary to life) trying to figure out how I could open them.

Drama aside the soup tasted fantastic and the boys devoured it. They didn't even notice the bits of metal at the bottoms of their bowls! (yes that was a joke, they weren't bits they were chunks) hehe. Anyways the guys who came over were Jesse and Andrew who I know and then a new guy Evan. Sean and Ann were going to come but they were unsure about the kids. Now that I think about it, Kyles apartment is no where child proof so that's probably a good thing. Jesse brought poker so after dinner we played I had never played poker before and after a thousand questions I kinda had it figured out. I didn't do too bad either.

Building a table

So these are some of the things I do all day while I'm home alone when Kyle has to work. I usually go down to the corner cafe then go over to the markets and get what I need for dinner that night or any other random things we seem to need. If its not raining I'll go walk around the neighborhood and get lost and find my way back. This all needs to be done before 1 or 2 because thats nap time over here for everyone. All the shops close up for a few hours and go have huge lunches then sleep till its time to open up again for the evening. So today I built a table during those hours! Kyle bought this table from the NEX (the Navy Exchange on base) because the table he had barely fit the two of us, let alone a crowd if he ever had one. Plus his kitchen is big enough and he had gift cards so might as well! They delivered it around 9am and just put it in the kitchen then left. So it was up to us to build it. Well that was a bigger task than I expected when I started opening up the box....

Last night

This is the last night I'll spend in my bed! Tomorrow night I'll be sleeping on a plane for 11+ hours and then the night after that will be the start of my nights of sleep in Italy! It has been quite the intense week with preparing as well as seeing people before I leave. I just saw the whole LCAD gang again one last time tonight which was was awesome! Soooo good seeing Dana too =) I think I'm all packed and ready! Well I know I'm ready that's for sure but as for packed, well we shall see once I get there what I forgot! I did have to pack a carry on which I was trying to avoid. It seems like I will be carrying all this onto the plane with me! Yay!! That's what I get for packing my suitcase over 50lbs oh well. ♥   Mae

Our Christmas

I still had a secret Kyle didn't know about, the hotel Christmas, and he was about to find out. When we were waiting in line for a cab, I pulled out the room key that was in an envelope and gave it to him. He was very confused but I said just be patient. After dealing with out stupid cabbie we made it to the hotel. I didn't need to check in since I already had. I was do excited in the elevator I still couldn't contain myself I wanted to show him his surprise so badly! Once we got to the room he saw the sign on the door and I explained that since he couldn't be here for Christmas, I made it for us! He loved everything! I showed him around the whole place and everything that I had done. Our cute little christmas tree! Loaded baked potato soup with strawberry mango sangria and cute straws to match! The first thing he wanted to do was to have me open my present but I told him to wait. He wanted to take it out of his suitcase at the airport an have me open it he w...
