We are now leaving Positano by ferry and headed to Amalfi. It is a beautiful and the sun is shining with no clouds...a perfect day! The water is pretty calm as well so the boat is gliding smoothly across the water.
Another picture of Positano.
We saw this giant hole in the mountain and thought it looked really cool. I told Laura that a dragon lived there but she didn't believe me.
Me and Laura on the boat!
The Amalfi coast has many arches supporting the roads, which have been there for centuries. They make for a good view!
We made it to Amalfi! We got off the boat and within a minute, we were in the city square. We visited a paper store, since Amalfi is the birthplace of modern paper in Europe. We tried to find this store the last time we drove through Amalfi, but were unsuccessful. They had a lot of cool journals and stationary. Laura bought some as gifts, which I think will be great for her friends! Walking further into the town, we approached the main church in Amalfi (pictured above). We didn't walk up the steps (too hot outside!) so we continued on through the town.
The roads seem wide at this point, but they start to get more narrow and windy the further into town you go.
The streets were filled with people! Mostly tourists I imagine, but there are a bunch of neat shops that line the promenade. We stopped in a couple souvenir shops to pick up gifts!
Amalfi has a lot of little alley-ways which separate the buildings. What we didn't realize was that they spider out and up into the mountainside.
As you can see in this alley-way, there are a ridiculous amount of stairs (which we also didn't climb, too hot!) which lead to other shops and restaurants.
This is my enjoying my Lemon gelato. It was so sour and amazing!
Laura was quite pleased with her gelato as well!
On to the windy roads!!
We are now leaving Amalfi and driving back towards Naples. I have driven this road with Laura once before, but this time it was much less stressful, as I was just a passenger...awesome!
Amalfi has fjords (yes, like in Norway) which go all the way down to sea level (a 2,000 ft drop in some areas).
Here is the only downside of taking a bus to Amalfi...getting stuck! There are only a select number and model of buses that are authorized to drive the Amalfi coast, but even then we still ran into this snafu. Thanks to our expert bus driver Pasquale, we were back on track in no time.
That concludes our trip to Amalfi...it was great fun and much less stressful than last time! That being said, I think Laura and I both enjoyed Positano a bit more than Amalfi. Positano seems to have a less touristy feel then Amalfi with all the same great features and scenery. Until next time, this is Kyle signing off!
