Capri

It was such an early morning this morning! I'm used to waking up early every day but usually I get to go back to sleep after Kyle leaves for work. This time we both had to get up and leave because we were going to Capri! The second we saw who our tour guide was I got so excited because it was Aldo from Pompeii!! We knew then that it would be a good trip and well worth it!

First we took a bus down to the docks where Aldo worked it out for us to board an hour early so we got an extra hour on the island. Nice! We got on a catamaran called SNAV that reminded me of the Catalina Flyer. The boat ride to Capri from the bay of Naples is about 50 minutes, I think. I actually wouldn't know because I slept the whole ride over.

Capri seriously is the Catalina of Italy. It's really pretty and they have a main tourist harbor where everything is then residential on the back side.

We went on this tour once we got there that took us to the Blue Grotto. You took this motorboat over around the corner of the island and then you got into this tiny little row boat and they would row you into this tiny little cave. Watching the whole process made me freak out! The entrance to the cave is about the size of a boat so all the guests have to lay down in the boats, there are about 4 people in each one. Then the row guy who is standing has to actually lay down really fast right before the entrance so he doesn't get hit then he can stand up on the other side! So crazy! I couldn't believe I actually got into one of these things!

That little hole is what we are about to go through.

Here is someone coming out, they would clap when people made it out which made me even more nervous.

About to go in, if that isn't the fakest smile I've ever produced I don't know what is. I'm so nervous at this moment in time!!

But it was totally worth it because once you were in the caves the sight was fantastic! The water in there is Soooooo blue and it's so strange! The cave is completely pitch black and the only light is from the entrance but the way the light reflects in there makes the water this incredible color it was amazing. Also all the row guys are singing in Italian super loud it's so fun!

Once we were back on shore and met up with Aldo he took us in these buses to the top of the hill which was like the same roads in Amalfi, windy, narrow and steep! Look how close we came to the other bus!

We had lunch reservations up there at this place called La Pigna which means the pinecone. The lunch was a full multiple course meal. They came around with trays and would just pile up your plate with each course then move on to the next. We had bread with two pasta dishes, salad, a meat either chicken, meat or fish, then gelato to close. It was so good!!! The place itself was super pretty and overlooked the bay of Capri.

Inside La Pigna, it was so beautiful in here!

After lunch we walked up through the town to these gardens that overlooked the backside of Capri. The water over there was so beautiful I just wanted to jump in! So multicolored and clear and we were up really high too! We walked through the shops on the way back down to the docks and pretended we were rich and went in to some upper expensive stores. They had all the designer stores up there, Chanel, LV, Prada, etc. nothing in our budget of course! Also nothing on Capri is free, even the bathroom you have to pay for.

Capri is known for their lemons too, look at the size of these!! They also had limoncello everywhere. The weather was perfect for a Capri trip today! We are both exhausted and will for sure sleep well tonight after all the walking we did.

Bringing the Cooking Lessons Home

We left the hotel at the Neapolitan time of 10ish or 11ish and headed back to the town to find some breakfast. We parked in another paid parking lot so Kyle was happy. After breakfast we looked in a couple of shops after to see if we could find a ravioli cutter but still no luck. So weird. It was so nice out again, such good luck with the weather. We found another cute look out area that was apart of the "public gardens" we found in the guidebook at the hotel. It was just a little area with benches and the look out, not many flowers or garden like things.  When we were walking back to the car we saw this sign on a wood shop and I had to take a photo for dad. I thought it was so clever! Still on a mission for a ravioli cutter we headed towards Pozzuoli to try and go to their "Costco-Like" or "Walmart-Like" stores they have. One is called Leroy Merlin and the other is Auchan. The one we went to was apart of this huge mall. Kyle and I h...

Baking Around goes to Italy

Since I couldn't be here for Kyles actual birthday, I made him a cake today instead! Today was the first day I went out on my own. I accomplished ordering a cappuccino and going to the market all by myself! Such an accomplishment. I loved going to the market and looking at everything. I'm pretty sure I was asked like 10 times if I needed help because I would just stand there and stare at all the packaging. This is what I bought to bake a cake with, they even had candles too! It took me about an hour to figure out how to use the oven though. I pretty much took the whole thing apart (not the first time I've taken an oven apart) to find out that you need to light it with a lighter. Luckily the internet was working today so I also went online and searched for the manual for about 30 minutes. Once I decoded that I was ready to bake a cake! Now baking in another country, not terribly difficult...but baking in Kyles kitchen?! Thats another story. The poor guy doesn't reall...

Lazy Thursday and The Empire Strikes Back

We returned from Sorrento yesterday and decided to make this a day of rest.  We woke up around noon and shuffled around the house, making a little breakfast and coffee.  I worked on some homework and Laura played on her computer.  We finally got out of the house and went shopping in Pozzuoli.  First we stopped at a record and sound system store, which I am convinced was a shop selling stolen goods.  I told Laura and she said it wasn't, but I told her it's not normal to sell items without the box.  Almost every item in that store was out of the box and "used", but I digress.  We stopped by the supermarket called Conad that's near my house and picked up some groceries.  When we got home, we chilled some Prosecco and Laura made a cheese and crackers plate for us.  We sat on the balcony and watched the sun set behind the hills of Bacoli, talking about the past week and how much fun we had.  After that, Laura prepared dinner and we decide...
