Imparare l'italiano (Learning Italian)

It rained tonight which was a change since its been so hot lately. There was thunder and lightning too, but mainly "fulmine" (lightning). We watched it from the balcony before we went out to dinner. Kyle really wanted to take me to this place right downstairs that has amazing pizza called Fresco's which means "Fresh" in Italiano. Their name doesn't lie. Since I still don't really know the language Kyle ordered for us. Their pizzas were huge! I only finished a fourth of mine, it had tomatoes, basil and mozzarella di bufala (buffalo mozzarella) that was very Fresco!

We took a walk down to the harbor after dinner. It wasn't raining then but there was still fulmine over the island Ischia, which is like a Catalina to us. It was really very pretty to watch and there wasn't any rain, just light over the island. The harbor is really close and on the walk down we saw a spot of Locks of Love that Christine and Dan were telling us about. We will have to go get a padlock and add one here. Down at the harbor theres a really long and wide boardwalk thats made out of granite and mosaics. Its huge and Kyle said he thinks it stretches all the way down to Naples.

Bringing the Cooking Lessons Home

We left the hotel at the Neapolitan time of 10ish or 11ish and headed back to the town to find some breakfast. We parked in another paid parking lot so Kyle was happy. After breakfast we looked in a couple of shops after to see if we could find a ravioli cutter but still no luck. So weird. It was so nice out again, such good luck with the weather. We found another cute look out area that was apart of the "public gardens" we found in the guidebook at the hotel. It was just a little area with benches and the look out, not many flowers or garden like things. When we were walking back to the car we saw this sign on a wood shop and I had to take a photo for dad. I thought it was so clever! Baking Around goes to Italy

Since I couldn't be here for Kyles actual birthday, I made him a cake today instead! Today was the first day I went out on my own. I accomplished ordering a cappuccino and going to the market all by myself! Such an accomplishment. I loved going to the market and looking at everything. I'm pretty sure I was asked like 10 times if I needed help because I would just stand there and stare at all the packaging. This is what I bought to bake a cake with, they even had candles too! It took me about an hour to figure out how to use the oven though. I pretty much took the whole thing apart (not the first time I've taken an oven apart) to find out that you need to light it with a lighter. Luckily the internet was working today so I also went online and searched for the manual for about 30 minutes. Once I decoded that I was ready to bake a cake! Now baking in another country, not terribly difficult...but baking in Kyles kitchen?! Thats another story. The poor guy doesn't reall...

Brett's Mansion

Today we went wine tasting, but this part of the day deserves it's own post because it was so awesome. My friend Brett (the one who came to the BBQ on Friday) just moved into a new place in Bacoli and invited Laura and I over for food and drinks with his new found neighbors Patrick and Christina along with his landlord Fabio and family. It took awhile to find his house since Google Maps was no match for the random Italian roads. Once we arrived, we were both in awe. Brett opened his 10 foot iron gate (remotely, of course) and let us in. The first thing I said to Laura was, "Look at all the parking he has!" It was a good 40 square feet of driveway...unheard of in Italy! We got out of the car and walked along the concrete pathway to his patio.
