Our Christmas

I still had a secret Kyle didn't know about, the hotel Christmas, and he was about to find out. When we were waiting in line for a cab, I pulled out the room key that was in an envelope and gave it to him. He was very confused but I said just be patient. After dealing with out stupid cabbie we made it to the hotel. I didn't need to check in since I already had. I was do excited in the elevator I still couldn't contain myself I wanted to show him his surprise so badly! Once we got to the room he saw the sign on the door and I explained that since he couldn't be here for Christmas, I made it for us! He loved everything! I showed him around the whole place and everything that I had done. Our cute little christmas tree! Loaded baked potato soup with strawberry mango sangria and cute straws to match! The first thing he wanted to do was to have me open my present but I told him to wait. He wanted to take it out of his suitcase at the airport an have me open it he w...

The Wait

This is something we have to get use to for sure. My wait was different than Kyle's wait today. I was up at 7am, not rested at all from the lack of sleep the night before. I had everything ready to go and I just needed to be patient and that's the hardest thing in the world on days like these. I took my time getting ready and eating breakfast. I was planning on heading to the hotel I booked for us before I went to the airport. I wanted to be there before noon and needed to leave at 10am to get there. Well it was snowing outside, so my plan of lugging all my stuff through the subways failed. I called a cab instead which meant I didn't need to leave till 11am now. Another hour of wait time. I was so ready to go when the can driver showed up. It was my first time using Uber and I'm so glad I did. The driver was fantastic and was so excited for me when I told him my plans for that day. I booked us a room at the Springhill Hotel and Suites and had called ahead to make su...

Mae Abroad and Back Again

Probably one of the hardest things I've ever had to do was leave Kyle this morning and walk to one of the many terminals I'll be in over the next 24 hours. The past 3 weeks have been so full of joy, I have adventured more than I've been able to do in a long time and with someone who I'm so excited about. It couldn't have been better! My flights started at Capidichino International in Naples. After my short flight to Munich, I had a long 7 hour layover. I shopped around and ate some breakfast, tried to sleep a little. It was difficult as always, trying to sleep in an airport. We woke up around 3am this morning and so far its been a pretty emotional day so I am exhausted. I did cheer up a bit when I saw this decorative fellow getting in line to board our plane.  Once we finally got to board I headed to the back of the plane where my seat was and guess who my seat partner was? The cowboy himself, Hermann the German. Luckily he was a very nice old man, 84 ...

Wine Tasting in Benevento

Guess who our tour guide was?! Aldo!! yay! We were so happy to see him. He must be the only tour guide though the Navy because he was on all the tours we did. Fantastic! It was such a beautiful day to be at a vineyard. It rained yesterday so today was just perfect. Since Aldo seems to know all of Italy, we got to meet a lot of people and they took really good care of us and were super excited that we were there. Everyone we met spoke Italian so Aldo had to translate but they were all super patient and nice, unlike some people in Pozzuoli where they just don't want to deal with Americans. We got to try the grapes straight off the vines and they were so delicious! They are all organic at this vineyard and don't use any chemicals at all so it was safe to eat the grapes as is. Its against the law for them to use chemicals on their plants, which is good. 11 bottles of wine...After the 3rd I started just tasting it and dumping th...

Building a table

So these are some of the things I do all day while I'm home alone when Kyle has to work. I usually go down to the corner cafe then go over to the markets and get what I need for dinner that night or any other random things we seem to need. If its not raining I'll go walk around the neighborhood and get lost and find my way back. This all needs to be done before 1 or 2 because thats nap time over here for everyone. All the shops close up for a few hours and go have huge lunches then sleep till its time to open up again for the evening. So today I built a table during those hours! Kyle bought this table from the NEX (the Navy Exchange on base) because the table he had barely fit the two of us, let alone a crowd if he ever had one. Plus his kitchen is big enough and he had gift cards so might as well! They delivered it around 9am and just put it in the kitchen then left. So it was up to us to build it. Well that was a bigger task than I expected when I started opening up the box....

No Power!

It was super hot out today! Which didn't work out well for me when the power decided to go out on me. Mom you would have been miserable. Apparently you can't have more than 3 things on at a time. I had the washer and dryer both on at the same time and I guess that was too much for this poor apartment. Not good on a hot day because that means no AC! I had just come back from my walk too and so I was overheated from that and to come back to a hot house, oh not cool. Literally. (See what I did there, Findley's/Fabrizio's I know you'll appreciate that one)  Ok so I knew we have things on the wall that have something to do with something but the problem is A. I know very little if anything about these things and B. Everything is in Italian. So I pull out my phone and started translating all the boxes we have on the walls so I could figure out which one had to do with the power. I was super nervous because one also has to do with the alarm system and I didn't w...

Capri

It was such an early morning this morning! I'm used to waking up early every day but usually I get to go back to sleep after Kyle leaves for work. This time we both had to get up and leave because we were going to Capri! The second we saw who our tour guide was I got so excited because it was Aldo from Pompeii!! We knew then that it would be a good trip and well worth it! First we took a bus down to the docks where Aldo worked it out for us to board an hour early so we got an extra hour on the island. Nice! We got on a catamaran called SNAV that reminded me of the Catalina Flyer. The boat ride to Capri from the bay of Naples is about 50 minutes, I think. I actually wouldn't know because I slept the whole ride over. Capri seriously is the Catalina of Italy. It's really pretty and they have a main tourist harbor where everything is then residential on the back side. We went on this tour once we got there that took us to the Blue Grotto. You took this motorboat o...
